SINGLE TABLE TOURNEYS

Earlier in the year Dude thanked Carl Olson for his advice to get more aggressive. Two weeks ago when I made the trip to Tampa to play Sit N Gos, home game pal Robert Herrick gave me the advice to play tight and wait out the maniacs and it worked just like he said it would. Tampa is full of gamblers. And since the fate of Internet Poker is murky, I’ve been playing nothing but SitNGos online figuring that I should work on the game that may be my only option soon.

In the past, these were tourneys I played here and there to kill some time, never working out a strategy except trying to play the big hands well. When I was playing in Tampa I found myself marrying Robert’s wisdom with what Scott Fischman said in his online poker book, in short, don’t get too involved until the blinds are worth stealing. I guess that’s simple enough advice, but now that I am playing these events for profit instead of entertainment, I find that it’s the paramount strategy. And I think it works well because so many players play like I use to, trying to hold on for third rather than collecting chips.

Since October 3, I am in the money 26/53 with a stretch of 10 straight games where I was at least 4th.

WIN 5 – PLACE 10 - SHOW 11. The key is getting the win number up and I think that will occur as I get more shorthanded experience.
