BANKROLL

It's a beautiful thing. When you have a big bankroll, you can play bigger games and outlast big ugly downturns. The past two weeks, I have mainly been playing $10-20 and $15-30 limit Omaha Hi-lo. It's really a ton of fun. Rather than sitting all day at the NL Hold'em table, waiting for a big pocket pair or a miracle flop, I am playing over 40% of the hands in Omaha. Also, unlike No Limit Hold'em, which can erase my stack in one swift blow, in limit Omaha, even the ugliest of bad beats will only make a dent.

I have been schooling myself on what types of hands I want to be entering with. I think the best hand would be something of the order of AA23 with a two-way flush draw. I will see a flop with any A2, since low hand is worth half the pot. If I manage a two-pair, I've got a good chance of taking down the high also. I actually prefer to see A2 over AA. Two pair with AA comes with the risk of being up against trips. I am getting increasingly choosy about the hands I play, even folding things in early position that I would possible call a raise with in late. With pots regularly approaching $300, all it takes is a few splits and one big rake every hour or so to make for a nice session. I am getting better at limiting my bleeding on the mediocre starting hands. I will go down $30, $30, $30, then just when I start getting nervous, there is a $240 pot awaiting me. I have made $5000 in two weeks, which is good enough money to keep me playing Omaha for awhile.
