CATCH-UP POST
We had a blast in Orlando. We spent a day each at Magic Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, DisneyQuest, and Typhoon Lagoon. We got in free to every park except DisneyQuest. They didn't even give us a discount, the bastages. We got in free to Typhoon Lagoon but probably shouldn't have, so we'll call it a wash. We ate well and caught up with some friends, so the entire week is a highlight of the year for me. I even got a night of poker in with my pals at Lynn Fellows' house. I won about $120 with my $30 buy-in so that worked out for me. I started slow then started catching all kinds of cards.
The kids have started school and I'm getting to play a little during the days now. There are still landscaping crews to deal with, so I can't always get involved in tournaments. I've been playing mostly cash games the past couple of weeks. I had one bad outing where I thought I was in an Omaha HiLo game when I was actually in a Hi game. I had been playing HiLo and I was actually up $77 from my $100 buy-in in pot-limit. My downfall came when I woke up with AA32, the mother of all HiLo hands. An ace came on the turn giving me trips with no straight or flush on the board and a draw to the nut low. I bet to price my opponent in. I was worried only about a third club coming, which of course did. But it was a low club, giving me the nut low, so when my opponent checked, I bet $50 to induce a call. I thought it was looking like a scoop unless he hit the flush. My $50 priced him into a call, and he scooped with his 95c over my trip aces with low hand being irrelevent. Aargh! They say it is good to know where you are at in a hand. Well, it is even more important to know where you are at in the room. That is the second time I have been playing HiLo strategy in a Hi game. The story ends well, because I moved up to a higher limit and won back my $100 in five minutes then quit even.
Today I played HiLo again. I love that game. I won $100 then quit. Today is Mason's birthday and he unwrapped his presents this morning. I bought him a GameCube with a couple of games, so it is game on in half an hour when he is home from school. Other than that, I am watching the John Roberts confirmation hearings and catching up on emails. Yesterday I was involved in my biggest pot ever, which demands a separate post.
