The follow-up to my decent finish the other day. I got AA on the first hand and since it was a re-buy tourney and I didn't want to waste the opportunity, I went all-in and got A9 to call. I didn't bother to play chip bully, picking my spots along the way. I saw two more pairs during the 2 1/2 hours, JJ and 77.
I did get all my money in 3 way with AQ (The best hand I saw in 45 minutes) versus AQ and KQ, the KQ was shortstacked and he hit his K. My day ended when went all-in on the small blind with K2 getting light on chips only to be called by the big blind KJ. I did hit a 2, but he somehow hit a straight. It mirrored my exit from the last tourney. I had a decent enough high card heads up against only the big blind, who had an average stack and had to risk half of it to call. Neither time were their hands great, but they both called anyway. They may have read me as desperate, but I was playing pretty tight both games. I don't think I would have made either call had I been in their shoes.
But I'm happy with my patience, and that I neither re-bought nor added on. If I can play like this and get a few big pocket pairs late, I think I'm due for a finish in the top 5.
