49 of 952

I fell short in my last shot at the WSOP Main Event. There was some money at 29th and the packages started at 19th.

It was slow-going early, but I was able to double up before the first break and wound up at 292 of.611. I hit a couple of sets in the second hour and made some timely raises and was 31 of 246 by the second break. The third hour was tortuous and I only survived by my wits making a play here or there. In fact, I didn’t see a pocket pair during the entire third hour and I stole the blinds once with AQ the best hand I hit that hour. It got so bad that I was down to a starting stack and had to gamble with TJ first and a weak Ace later to stay alive. I was 61 of 72 at the third break.

A couple of all-ins kept the wolf away for a while and I declined two gambling attempts. I could have called a raiser all in with TJ when my M was around 4, but I decided to wait for better. When I received 22 in the fourth hour it was the first and only pocket pair I saw after the second break, but with a call and a raise in front of me, I decided to muck it and wait for a better opportunity.

After seeing a wildman lose half his stack calling all-in with 87s, my KQo looked great when he raised all-in on the next hand. He turned over 66 and I didn’t improve. Now I was crippled. From there I called my Qx from the big blind and lost to Kx.
