SWEET AND SOUR
I was having a good run at PokerRoom, so I decided I should take my A-game into a Limit room and win some money. But nooooo! I got hammered. Next time I play limit, I'm going to play a long session at a full table. I play too fast at the short-handed tables. At the smaller limits, I could steamroll the table, but against better competition, I just give away cash.
I was sad to have piddled away my recent winnings, so I got involved in a $100 single table tournament. I played a little faster than I should and missed the money. So I played another, determined to play right. Every decision was golden, but in a bid to double up, I lost with AA to TT when four hearts hit the board. That was tough to stomach. Marci said it seems like I'm always having my aces cracked. I assured her I win four times for every once they are cracked, but often, when they are cracked, that is my last hand of the tournament. She liked the positive spin.
Today, I first played a small tourney at PokerRoom, but when my full house was beaten by running sixes for quads, I decided I needed a change of scenery. I entered a $50 multi-table tourney at PokerStars, where my bankroll is still around $20k, so I don't feel the losses as hard. I played well, and although I did make a couple of lame mistakes, I still managed to finish 14th and cash out $200. With blinds rising, I went all in from first position with A8 and the big blind made a gutsy call with A9. So long as I can avoid bad luck, I'm finding my groove now for getting to the money. Once I get there though, just like anyone else, I really need to get some opportune cards to get into any position to win.
I played a little short-handed $3-6 Omaha Hi/Lo and made $42. Then I played a single table $100 and finished third, which pays $180 with nine players. So, it was forward progress anyways, which makes for a much better day.
