A LESSON FROM A LOSS

Last night was a good night. I won back everything I had lost earlier in the week during a run of bad cards. Still, I think the bad beats have gotten to me enough that I folded two winners last night. The one I remember the best was:

I held AT and the flop came AK6

I bet and was raised by the pre-flop raiser. I assumed the AK. Another guy also called.

The turn was a blank and the raiser bet and we both called.

The river produced another K, and the silent guy bet under the gun.

I folded figuring that one of these guys is holding a K.

Turns out that I read them all wrong. The better had A4 and the other guy didn’t show. I would have beat him with my T kicker. It cost me $50.

I’ve been going over the play and he made a smart bet on the river. The K was a great scare card and he played it the whole way as if he held a king and didn’t want to drop. Of course, he would have had to fold if I had gone over the top, but he knew that it was his only chance to win the pot.

It was a nice little play that I won’t forget and will try to employ later.
