I played in the rebuy tourney tonight and kept up my streak of Top 10% finishes. I had 5700 chips at the break without re-buying and the add-on seemed a waste of money. I couldn't see another 1500 chips being worth full price. I took a couple of hits and my stack fell to 1200 in the next half hour. I tighened up and made a couple of good moves that put me back into contention. With about 70 players left, I was in the top ten with about 46,000 chips and then the deck went cool.

It took me three hours and 45 minutes to see my only AA and I received it under the gun. The blinds were $1500-$3000 and I had $21,000 left. With all the action usually behind me, I called hoping to re-raise. We were at the level that guys just push all-in. In fact, the chip leader did so twice in the last ten hands. For me, no raise. I got one caller. The flop came JT5 rainbow and since the caller fired at every pot checked to him, I checked. He bet $6000 into an $10000 pot and I re-raised all in. After some hesitation, he called and turned over a QJ. I was sitting pretty and then a Jack it the turn and I was finished.

I could beat myself up for not playing it faster, but if I wanted to make the final table, I had to maximize that hand, and take the gamble that goes along with sucking him in. You can't be too unhappy when you get your money in as the favorite and force the other guy to chase.
